Batman Begins

Synopsis: The story of how Bruce Wayne became Batman, fighting to save Gotham City from the mob, corrupt cops, and other villains.
My Thoughts: When it first came out in theaters, I said that Batman Begins was going to be the movie the others should have been. It didn't disappoint. What I really liked about the movie was that it had a realism that the others had lacked. By the time the later movies came along, it was horribly campy and just terrible. So scrapping all of that was absolutely necessary. In the new movie, they have made a Gotham that could actually exist and even the supervillains and Batman's skills are plausible. I think that ended up being done rather well. More thoughts:
- Christian Bale (also seen in Newsies and American Psycho), is Bruce Wayne/Batman and he pulls it off pretty convincingly. He has multiple personas (Batman, public Bruce, real Bruce), but he plays them all being part of the same person. And he throws a little Patrick Bateman in, which can never be a bad thing.
- Good supporting cast all around, except for one who I'll get to in a second. Michael Caine is great as Alfred and has some comic relief. Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman so you can't really complain there. And all three major villains are all good and bring something different to the table.
- All I can think of watching Katie Holmes is that she's now carrying Tom Cruise's spawn of Scientology. Not a pleasant thought. I also just don't think she's all too convincing as an actress in the movie.
- When I first read that Scarecrow would be the main villain, I couldn't figure out why, of all villains, they pick him. Then after watching the movie, I realized first that they pull it off pretty well, making him pretty creepy with just a burlap sack over his face. Second, it was good idea to use a completely different villain from the other movies to separate it from the others and show they're starting the whole thing over.
- Seeing everything before it all happened (the Batcave when it's just a cave full of bats, Gordon before he's Commish, the Bat Signal, etc.) was pretty sweet. And I really liked the background story from when Bruce is a kid.
- It's obviously set up for a sequel. Looking forward to it.

Hmm.. good review. I've never seen it but now I actually do want to see it. I'll probably buy it over the weekend.
Also, Katie Holmes sucks. First, she's ugly. Second, she can't act for shit. Third, Scientology?? What?!?

Tim, you become more of a mortal enemy to me every day. I think that Katie Holmes comment just made you my uber-enemy.
UGLY?! Most men would cut off their units just to sleep with her, despite the irony of doing so. A person fitting that description cannot possibly be ugly. She might not be #1 on your list, or even make your top 50, but ugly? Noooo no no no no.
Batman Begins was cool except for the Batmobile. How inappropriate was that steering mechanism? I don't remember anything in the comic book about Batman having to insert himself like a dildo into the front end of the car just to steer it.

Hahha yeah, Holmes is deformed.
She's not "ugly" she's merely "cute" And you're right, she wouldn't be in my top 100.
